On July 2, 2025, a trilateral memorandum signing ceremony was held between the \u201cInnovative Progress and Ecology\u201d Public Union for Socio-Economic Development Support, the \u201cBlood Donors Association\u201d Public Union, and the Adalia International Women’s Platform. The event aims to strengthen joint efforts in the development of blood donation in our country, the protection of a healthy gene pool, and the prevention of the negative consequences of marriages between blood relatives.<\/div>\n

The signing ceremony of the memorandum was attended by Saida Musayeva, Chairperson of the \u201cInnovative Progress and Ecology\u201d Public Union for Socio-Economic Development Support; Jamala Nakhchivani, Deputy Chairperson; Fuad Asgarov, Head of the \u201cBlood Donors Association\u201d Public Union; and Dilshad Ahadova, Head of the Adalia International Women\u2019s Platform. The event also brought together representatives from state institutions, local non-governmental organizations, mass media, and public activists.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, a wide exchange of views was held on the genetic risks associated with marriages between blood relatives, the spread of hereditary diseases, and the negative impact on the health of future generations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n

As the \u201cInnovative Progress and Ecology\u201d Public Union for Socio-Economic Development Support, we believe that preventing marriages between blood relatives is not only the responsibility of the state, but also a crucial duty of society as a whole. Protecting a healthy gene pool, reducing hereditary diseases, and strengthening the institution of the family require public awareness, the dissemination of scientifically-based information, and the implementation of continuous social initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It should be noted that the recent amendments to the Family Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan also serve this purpose. According to the changes that came into force on June 1, 2025, marriages between close blood relatives have been restricted by legislation. This amendment is considered a significant step both in preventing genetic diseases and in strengthening healthy family values.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
